Tourers appear to be making a bit of a comeback as the number of different types of electric vehicles on the market starts to climb up a gear. With a choice now available to suit every budget, they might not be as popular as electric SUVs but they’re certainly becoming more and more appealing to those looking for practical electric vehicles and for drivers want a more accessible, practical boot.
Don’t think that electric estate cars are lagging behind the times when it comes to interior tech or slick looks either. These vehicles have sprung onto the electric car scene already knowing exactly how high the bar is. We’ve gathered the best of the best right here. Our top 5 features a handful of the best electric tourers out there in 2025 to suit a variety of budgets. In no particular order…
1. Audi A6 e-Tron Avant
Built on the VW Group’s PPE platform, 3 powertrains are available, with up to 456bhp of power. With really competitive range of up to 437 miles, the A6 e-tron Avant shares its underpinnings with the Q6 e-Tron and offers a reasonably-sized but not market-leading 502-litre boot. This extends when you put the seats down to 1422 litres. 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats are standard whereas some rivals including the ID.7 Tourer makes do with just 60/40 rear seats. You’ll find another 25-litre luggage area under its bonnet where you can keep the charging cables, thus optimising your boot space too. Ultra rapid 270kW charging will get you from 10–80% capacity in just 21 minutes. The high tech cabin features a 14.5-inch touchscreen and an advanced HUD. If it’s a combination of practicality with premium looks that you’re looking for then be sure to consider this Audi.
2. BMW i5 Tourer
This estate comes in 2 variants and combines performance and practicality. The eDrive40 has a single rear-mounted motor producing 335bhp, and the M60 xDrive features dual motors delivering 593bhp and 586lb ft of torque. Both models use an 81.2kWh battery, providing a range of up to 362 miles for the saloon and slightly less for the Touring. Boasting a spacious boot with a flat capacity of 570 litres and 1,700 litres when the rear seats are folded down, the boot is larger than the likes of the i5 saloon and the Audi A6 Avant e-tron. The back portion of the floor can also be lifted to access some additional storage.
3. Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer
The ID.7 Tourer is rear-wheel-drive with a choice of batteries, but you can also get a 4-wheel-drive GTX variant with a dual-motor setup. With great rear-seat space and ample legroom, the Euro NCAP 5-star safety rated ID.7 Tourer seats 3 adult passengers comfortably in the rear since the back floor is entirely flat. Boasting great storage options throughout, the centre console has cupholders and a wireless phone charger, and there’s more space within the armrest, with door bins providing plenty of space for bottles too. Providing 605 litres of boot capacity, (or 1,714 litres with the rear seats down), you get more space than you do in some of the more expensive Audi and BMW alternatives. If you’re looking for a vehicle to provide you and your passengers with long distance comfort or a practical family vehicle then this ID.7 tourer should definitely be on your shortlist. It even has heated massage seats and a 360-degree camera, no matter which version you choose.
4. MG5
The current MG5 boasts a sharp design, LED lights and a sophisticated cabin with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen. It’s an affordable, flexible, good all-round vehicle with a 7 year warranty, ,appealing to families for its flexibility and low price. The boot size is reasonable but not standout for an estate, at 578 litres. A WLTP range between charges of up to 250 miles is fairly respectable but definitely not up there with the higher range estates, however it’s more than ample for most drivers in terms of daily commuting. There’s also vehicle to load capability; an added bonus. There’s nothing ground breaking about this electric estate but it’s a decent enough all-rounder at the affordable end of the spectrum.
5. Peugeot E-308 SW
More expensive than the MG5 but cheaper than the more premium vehicles in our top 5, the Peugeot E-308 SW features a 154bhp front-mounted motor. Cheap to run, with decent bootspace, it’s a practical electric vehicle for families that looks the part while still being relatively affordable. It should deliver in excess of 240 miles of range in ideal conditions and 100kW DC charging can take the E-308 SW from 20 to 80 per cent of its charge in less than 25 minutes. Although it certainly doesn’t rival the more premium estate cars on our list we’ve included it for its affordability and all-round attributes, including some nice high-end features. Even entry range vehicles get 18-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, a heated front seat and steering wheel, as well as Peugeot’s double-screen infotainment display. 548 litres of cargo space expands to 1574 litres with the rear seats folded, beating some other vehicles in its class including the Focus Estate and Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer.
