For many drivers, the range an electric vehicle will allow between charges is their foremost consideration when leasing an electric car. For this reason, we’ve compiled a list of the longest range electric vehicles we’ve got available to lease at the moment.

1. Audi A6 e-tron

Topping our list of the longest range electric vehicles we lease, is the Audi A6 e-tron. For up to 463 miles of range, you’ll need to choose the A6 e-tron Performance model. Even in basic form as the A6 Avant e-tron with the smaller battery, you’ll achieve a very respectable 361 miles according to official figures.

But how much value do you get for your money compared with other similar brands? Well to put it into context, it’ll cost you less than an entry-level BMW i5 if you were to purchase it outright. All in all, the price tag and equipment levels make it pretty good value as a long range, quick charging, stylish electric executive car.

2. Volkswagen ID.7

The VW ID 7 Pro S is a spacious electric car, offering a long range of up to 440 miles and a really comfortable ride. In fact, it recently set a new range record after driving 587 miles on a single charge which would rocket it to the very top of our list, if it was the official WLTP figure. The test car was driven for 33 hours, at an average speed of 18mph and achieved 6.75mi/kWh during the test.

Volkswagen said the aim of the experiment was to determine the maximum efficiency of the ID 7 Pro S and claims the average speed correlates to typical inner-city driving, making it the ideal car for these types of journeys. The drive took place in December with ambient temperatures of 15 degrees.

It’s worth comparing to the BMW i4 or Tesla Model 3,and while it may not out-perform them for general driving experience, it’s more efficient, proving a long range doesn’t have to mean high running costs.

There’s an estate model, the ID.7 Tourer, if you’d prefer the extra boot space, though it comes at the cost of a few miles of quoted range.

3. Polestar 3

The Polestar 3’s a premium SUV, with sleek looks, great aerodynamics, and a responsive drive. In entry-level Long Range Single Motor trim, the Polestar 3 can achieve up to 438 miles, making it one of the longest-range, if not the longest -range vehicle in its class. With that amount of range you could drive from London to Edinburgh with spare miles left over, which pretty much sets the benchmark for electric vehicles right now.

Although a jump up in price from the Polestar 2, you get plenty of value for money from this well equipped, 5 seat, full-size electric SUV, surpassing rivals like the Tesla Model Y for range. With rapid charging at up to 250kW, autonomous driving functions and a sporting drive, there’s very little not to like. Chinese-owned and Chinese-built, it’s Swedish-headquartered and part of the Geely Group, like Volvo and Lotus and gives the likes of the BMW iX a run for its money.

4. Tesla Model 3

One of the most popular car brands in Britain, Tesla’s Model 3 underwent  a facelift in 2023 resulting in a  more executive appearance and a long range, all-wheel drive trim that now returns up to 436 miles on 18-inch wheels thanks to a 79kWh battery.

Lease a Model 3 and you’ll have access to Tesla’s nationwide rapid-charge Supercharger network, returning charge speeds of up to 250kW, a considerable bonus. The Tesla model 3 is a popular compact executive car that’s become synonymous with electric-powered class and performance, long range and fast charging, ticking the vital boxes for anyone who spends great swathes of time on the road.

5. Vauxhall Grandland

The Vauxhall Grandland Electric shares many of its underpinnings with the next vehicle on our list: the Peugeot E-3008.

Neither of these vehicles are held up as the pinacle of driving enjoyment, but if it’s a practical and straightforward everyday family SUV you’re looking for at a reasonable price, then these are a pair of the longest range ones on the market with the Vauxhall Grandland offering up to 425 miles between charges.

The Vauxhall Grandland’s comfortable, easy to drive around town and has good all-round visibility. It’s well equipped with plenty of standard kit and is one of the largest models in the family SUV class. Fast charge capability of up to 160kW means it can charge from 20 to 80 per cent in under half an hour meaning that when you do finally need to stop to charge it, it’s not taking up any more time than a standard break for lunch at the motorway services.

6. Peugeot E-3008

Built on Stellantis’ new STLA Medium platform for mid-sized SUVs, the long-range version of this SUV with a 97kWh battery pack, is capable of returning a really impressive 435 miles. Available in 2 trim levels, the entry-level Allure and top-end GT, both offer a comfortable and smooth ride.

Providing stiff competition for everything from the Renault Scenic E-Tech to the Volvo EC40, the Peugeot E-3008 brings greater range, better performance and faster rapid charging to the firm’s lineup of EVs; right up there with cutting-edge Teslas and Polestars.

Although expensive compared to other Peugeots, considering what you get for your money it’s decent value for a stylish car with a 21-inch widescreen infotainment system.

7. BMW iX

The BMW iX is a spacious, quiet, quick SAV and if you opt for the new xDrive60 M Sport model you can expect a range of up to 426 miles.

It replaces the xDrive50, advancing the usable battery capacity slightly which, in tandem with other upgrades, has allowed the maximum range to increase from 380 to 426 miles. At £92,200, that’ll see you paying a considerably higher purchase price than models that start the range at £74,400 which don’t offer as many miles between charges.

BMW’s first purpose-built all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the BMW iX began a new chapter for BMW when it was introduced in 2021, standing for pioneering design, cutting-edge technology and dynamic electrified drive. This latest version builds on that foundation, with a refreshed sportier design, increased system power output and of course, the significant advancement in range.

8. Porsche Taycan

With space for 4 adults and a reasonably big boot, the Porsche Taycan is a sports EV car that doesn’t compromise on features, design or performance, while delivering up to 421 miles of range. It goes without saying that it’s one of the best electric performance car you can buy. Sporty and exciting, in 2024 it received a comprehensive update, too. While visually similar, there are extensive changes underneath including new batteries and motors. With a much bigger 105kWh ‘Performance Battery Plus’ option, the entry-level rear-wheel drive Taycan promises up to 421 miles on a charge. It’s also one of the fastest-charging electric cars money can buy, meaning that when the miles do run out you won’t be held up long before you’re back on the road.

9. Peugeot E-5008

If you’re looking for an electric family car with 7 seats, this is one of the longest range options available to you with 414 miles of range and more space than any other in its price bracket. Though it might not offer quite as much range as the E-3008, it’s infinitely practical with space for the kids and their friends and a nevertheless brilliant range for busy families short of the time to stop for frequent charges.

The E-5008 offers equally striking looks to the E-3008 and the same upmarket, high-tech interior too. The Mode 4 charging time means you can get up to 93 miles in just 10 minutes and the warranty covers it for up to 8 years (or 100,000 miles) under the new Peugeot Allure Care programme, the longest coverage of any European brand.

This all-electric car offers up to 408 miles of range and comes with sleek Scandi styling, a smart interior, quick acceleration and everything that someone looking for an executive car might want in a vehicle, making the Polestar 2 one of Britain’s most popular EVs (perhaps because it works well for most as a great family car too).
